Carolyn G. Maurer, Ph.D. is a
professional counselor and marriage and family therapist licensed by the State
of Texas. She is certified in clinical hypnosis through the American Society
for Clinical Hypnosis, and holds clinical membership in the American Association
for Marriage and Family Therapy. She earned her doctorate from the
University of Florida in Counselor Education in 1976 and has practiced in the
field of counseling for over 30 years.
Dr. Maurer has specialized
training in Eye Movement Desentization and Reprocessing (EMDR), considered one
of the leading new mind-body therapies for resolving trauma, anxiety, grief and
phobias. She is experienced in the use of hypnosis for a variety of issues,
such as smoking cessation and other habits, pain management, weight loss, fears
and phobias, general self and life enhancement, test and performance anxiety.
Dr. Maurer is experienced in
child and adolescent counseling and parent consultation. She also has
training in divorce and custody mediation. Personal experience and service
on a related non-profit board have provided Dr. Maurer with "on the job"
training in elder care-giving.
Dr. Maurer has taught grade
school and was a university professor, and has served as a consultant to school
counseling programs. She has been in private practice in Plano, Texas
since 1981. She has served as board president for the Mental Health
Association of Collin County and the Maurice Barnett Geriatric Wellness Center
of Collin County.
